A man who pleaded guilty to slashing a woman's face was asked to consult with a lawyer before he is sentenced.

Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons advised Eli Rashid Hill, 28, of Smith's Avenue, Warwick to speak to legal aid appointed lawyer Kae Thomas after a social inquiry report and psychiatric report had been filed.

Hill slashed the face of 24-year-old Rushana Tannock last October leaving the woman with visible scars on her face.

"You should have the opportunity to speak to someone. I would like for you to please let Ms Thomas speak to you and explain to you the implications before I sentence you," Mrs. Justice Simmons said in court yesterday.

During an arraignment session in January, Hill was asked by then Chief Justice Austin Ward if he had a lawyer.

Hill replied: "All lawyers want is your money. They are all a bunch of lesbians and homosexuals."

In court yesterday, Hill said he had requested legal aid. Mrs. Justice Simmons said she made sure someone was available for him.

Hill also told the court that his rights were being violated while he was at the Westgate Correctional Facility.

He said: "I was held in a room and beaten with bats."

He added that he was given medication and suffered side effects which included him hurting his jaw and not receiving treatment for more than three hours.

Mrs. Justice Simmons said he should speak with his lawyer about his concerns. She set down his sentencing for June 1.
