Smoking a joint proves costly

A Devonshire man caught smoking a joint in an increased penalty zone was fined $1,500 at Magistrates? Court last Friday.
Vincent Minors, 27, of Boundary Crescent, admitted possessing cannabis at Southampton Rangers on March 26.
Prosecutor Paula Tyndale said Police officers spotted Minors in the spectators? stand smoking a hand rolled cigarette.
She said they searched him and found a plastic bag containing plant material. The joint and the cannabis in the bag were later found to amount to 4.12 grams of the drug. Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Minors $500 for possessing the cannabis and $1,000 for having it in an increased penalty zone. The defendant was given until August 31 to pay or face two months in jail.
