Kyle Williams Tannock of Whaling Hill, Southampton, was handed a 15-month prison sentence for attacking two people at Chick?s Bar and Grill, in St. George?s.

Tannock, 22, who is currently serving time in Westgate Correctional Facility for another matter, appeared yesterday in the Supreme Court.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister told the court that on the night of February 11, 2003, Tannock attacked Shona Cann and Cornell Lovell after Ms Cann accidentally spilled a drink on Tannock?s clothing; both victims required hospital treatment for their injuries.

Mr. Bannister said Tannock had trapped Ms Cann behind the bar, where she was pushed into a broken glass shelf. Mr. Lovell was hurt as he tried to defuse the situation.

When Police arrested Tannock, they found a brown twist with three rocks of crack cocaine worth $75.

Mr. Bannister said a social inquiry report revealed the Tannock?s family had tried their best to help him, but to no avail.

Detective Constable Cheryl Beach testified that Tannock had numerous convictions of a like nature.

Mr. Bannister said a message must be sent out.

?Most people in Bermuda are now under the sentiment that they do not want to go out to socialise because of this type of behaviour,? he said.

Lawyer Victoria Pearman, acting for Tannock, told the court that her client had changed his life and had completed a violent offenders treatment programme while in prison.

She also pointed out that Tannock had not pushed Ms Cann into the glass shelf, but that she had backed into it.

She said her client accepted full responsibility for his actions and she urged the court to implement any follow-up treatment to help rehabilitate him.

Tannock apologised, saying that he was sorry for all the people he had let down by his actions.

Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons sentenced Tannock to 15 months for each offence and three months for possession of cocaine. The sentences are to run concurrently.
