Speculation over BCC's future
The West End Development Corporation has refused to be drawn on speculation that the Bermuda Cement Company will end its lease with the corporation prematurely.
BCC had arranged a new lease with Wedco in January, which included an agreement to build a new storage facility. Last night ZBM News claimed that the deal has now been scrapped.
But last night WEDCO chairman Stanley Lee said he knew nothing about the termination of the contract.
?We have requested from our lawyers to request in writing what their (BCC) position is,? Mr. Lee said.
He said that that he had heard ?bits and pieces? from news reports but was unaware of the BCC?s current position.
?We have nothing to say until we hear from their lawyer,? he said.
President of the BCC, Jim Butterfield denied some of the news report but refused to comment on the situation.
However he said that a press release would be released in the coming days.
