A British man who was killed in a road traffic accident in the early hours of yesterday morning has been identified as 47-year old Warren White.

Mr. White, who worked as a meat-cutter at the Marketplace's Hamilton store, was riding a motorcycle by the North Roundabout at the junction of Trimingham Hill and The Lane in Paget when he was involved in a single vehicle accident.

It was the first fatal road accident of 2003.

Police were called to the scene at around 12.30 a.m..

A spokesman from the Marketplace said Mr. White had only been working for the Marketplace since the first week of December.

Although the spokesman did not know Mr. White well, he said he seemed a nice guy. "All of us at the Marketplace send our condolences to the family," he said.

Scott McKay, manager of the Church Street Marketplace where Mr. White worked during his time in Bermuda, said staff at the store were also upset about the tragedy.

"We are feeling the loss of a member of our staff," he said. "I didn't have a chance to know him very well, but everyone thought very highly of him.

"He was always a happy, energetic guy. When he walked in the door you knew he was coming, he always had a smile on his face."

Mr. McKay added that Mr. White is survived by four children, still living in England.
