Blue Water Divers and Watersports is pulling out of doing winter business at Newstead after rough seas sunk one of his $8,000 jet skis for the second year running.

Owner Michael Burke said he had wanted to give out of season guests something to do but had been hit again by stormy weather which destroyed his floating dock on Boxing Day.

Mr. Burke said: "Next year we will just operate this in peak season. We like to remain open all year round for tourists, but I guess that is the price you have to pay."

However he did manage to rescue his other jet skis and boats put in danger by six foot waves.

"We were caught a bit by surprise. We had huge waves."

He said the Newstead location was very vulnerable but winter business would continue at his other locations at Elbow Beach and Somerset Bridge and there would be no loss of jobs.

Harbour Radio said there were multiple reports of boats breaking their moorings on Thursday. The Bermuda Fire Service rescued a 21-foot cuddy cabin boat, found semi-submerged near Foot of the Lane in Paget, by pumping the water out.
