Strike has little impact on Island

The strike by mechanics and other ground personnel at Northwest Airlines, the fourth-largest US carrier, had minimal effect on their service to Bermuda International Airport.

General manager of the Bermuda International Airport, James Howes, said the once weekly Northwest Flight 1978 from Detroit, was a summer only operation and its last day of operation was August 20.

He said this flight was delayed on Saturday in Detroit due to maintenance, but eventually arrived at Bermuda International Airport, one hour behind schedule at 5 p.m.
