A man who was caught speeding at the weekend ended up in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after abandoning his cycle and trying to escape from Police during a high-speed chase.

Around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday Police were on patrol on Middle Road in Southampton when they noticed a grey motorcycle travelling at a high speed in the opposite direction.

The officers made a U-turn near the Fairmont Southampton Hotel entrance and pursued the cycle up Lighthouse Hill and along the Railway Trail. The rider eventually dropped the cycle and tried to escape on foot with officers in pursuit in the Police vehicle. The suspect was found laying on the ground after jumping two walls.

The suspect was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment and was later released.

The cycle, a grey Peugeot Loxor, had been reported stolen earlier. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Man drives car into North Shore wall

A 34-year-old Hamilton Parish man was arrested on Friday night for suspicion of drunk driving after the car he was in demolished part of a wall on North Shore Road.

At 10:25 p.m. on Friday Police arrived at the scene of the collision on North Shore Road near Old Road.

The driver had left the scene prior to the officers arrival, however, a large portion of the wall on the westbound lane was demolished with a bumper and licence plate lying on the road.

After making inquiries the officers proceeded to an Old Road Shelly Bay residence where they noticed a silver coloured Opal Astra in the driveway with extensive frontal damage and a missing front bumper and licence plate.

The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving while impaired.
