Swing Bridge repairs to cost just under $3 million

Work begins on the Swing Bridge in St. George's.

Ministry of Works and Engineering revealed that their plans to rehabilitate the Swing Bridge in St. George's will cost just under $3 million.

Works Minister Alex Scott told: "The work on the bridge is long overdue. It has been breaking down from time to time, and we were very concerned about the electrical controls.

"There was a chance that the controls wouldn't send the appropriate signal to the public about whether the bridge was in place or not, so we made plans for work on the bridge to be done," he said.

The $3 million will go towards an overall strengthening of the bridge superstructure, replacement of the mechanical drive system, resurfacing of the deck, sandblasting and repainting of the girders, and a new computer controlled opening system.

The work will commence in the first week of July, and will continue until June next year.
