Talks continue to resolve dispute

Belco union representatives will continue to have mediation talks with company bosses and Labour Relations Officers today in a bid to resolve a pay dispute that could lead to strike action.

The Electricity Supply Union announced on Tuesday that staff would walk out at the end of the month unless their grievances over wages and job classifications are addressed. In response to their 21-day strike notice, mediation talks were launched yesterday between both parties and a Labour Relations Officer.

Robert Horton, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs said yesterday that the talks will reconvene this morning.

Around 200 of the 350-plus staff at Belco are members of the Electricity Supply Union.
