A violent clash between two groups of teen girls last night caused mayhem on Reid Street and closed a popular watering hole down for the night.

The Royal Gazette was told that a group of young women came to Captain's Lounge brandishing baseball bats and bottles, apparently in search of second group of younger girls, and a brawl broke inside the bar and later spilled onto the street.

The altercation occurred shortly before 7 p.m. and patrons were driven out as the bar closed down in attempt to control the situation.

More than 50 people were milling around the street in confusion and disgust after the bar was emptied while one lone Police car sat empty at Washington Lane and Church Street.

Witnesses to the brawl said Police cars had come speeding down the street but last night The Royal Gazette was told that while three cars responded to the scene, no arrests were made.

When The Royal Gazette arrived outside the bar, people were lining the sidewalk and could be seen with cell phones discussing the evening's events but the chaos was simmering down.

One disgruntled bar patron, who had witnessed the brawl was angered after having been kicked out of the establishment because of these girls who had come there looking to fight.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said she believed the attackers were about 18 or 19 years of age.

She said the young women came into the bar looking for some rivals and arrived carrying baseball bats.

They attacked a group of younger girls using the bats and bottles as weapons.

“This is crazy, those girls came up their with baseball bats and they were using bottles to fight each other,” the bar patron said. “They were after these high school girls. They shouldn't have even been in there.”

She said she believed the attackers came specifically to fight with the high school girls and that security at the bar had already realised they were underage and were about to escort the girls from the establishment when the fight exploded.

She said she hoped, however, that incidents like the brawl would not give the bar a bad name.

When contacted by The Royal Gazette last night, an owner of The Captain's Lounge - who refused to give his name - said that he did not know what had happened and was still assessing the situation.

The owner would give no details of what had happened inside the bar but claimed the incident had taken place in the street.
