A 16-year-old was remanded in custody yesterday after he admitted to breaking into a hotel room and a car while already on probation for similar offences.

Eujante Outerbridge, of Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing a $700 Louis Vuitton bag, a Grotto Bay Hotel key, and a $650 Olympus camera, as well as breaking into a room at the hotel, all on September 14 of this year.

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told the court the youth, along with a co-defendant not before the court, was at Grotto Bay on September 14 when they noticed the door of a car was not locked properly. Opening the door, they stole a camera from the car.

Leaving the car park, the two youths then went to the hotel beach, where they noticed a Louis Vuitton handbag left on the shore while its owners were swimming. The pair stole the bag and, searching it, found a hotel room key.

Vowing to find the room which fit the key, the two tried it in various hotel room doors before hitting the right one. Though they searched the room they found nothing to steal.

When Police were later called to the scene, a forensics unit was able to lift a fingerprint from the car leading to Outerbridge. The youth admitted to breaking into the hotel room as well as the car while under questioning.

?He?s trying his best, but he gets caught up with the wrong thing at the wrong time,? Outerbridge?s mother, who appeared in court to offer her son ?moral support?, said.

?He has too much idle time on his hands.?

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner ordered an updated social inquiry report on Outerbridge, and adjourned the matter until October 13 for that report to be completed.

With the crimes committed during the day while the youth was already on probation, Mr. Warner remanded him into custody at the Co-Ed Facility until that date, citing concerns about the likelihood of re-offending.
