There have been 38 applicants for the post of Director of Public Prosecutions - but very few locals have applied, said Deputy Governor Tim Gurney.

He could not put a figure on the local applicants or say whether locals would be favoured over foreigners.

"We did advertise locally but we didn't get any applicants, then we went overseas," he said. "We will look at all the applicants and work out a shortlist."

The shortlist for the $127,000-post should be ready this summer, said Mr. Gurney.

Candidates will then be interviewed by a panel of the Police Commissioner, Government's Director of Human Resources, the Deputy Governor, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions and Puisne Judge Norma Wade Miller.

Sri Lankan lawyer Kulandra Ratneser was appointed acting DPP in March after Khamisi Tokunbo's contract was not renewed.

Bermuda's newest judges are set to be sworn in next month.
