Former Saltus student Trevor Leitch has been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

Mr. Leitch was recently named the winner of a full scholarship for the University of Oxford. The annual awarding of the scholarship goes to one student who demonstrates a high standard of academics, sports, and morals. It pays for full tuition, flight costs, and living expenses for a minimum of two years.

Mr. Leitch said: "I was surprised that I received the scholarship, being as I thought the interview went so terribly."

Mr. Leitch graduated this year from Princeton with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Certificate in Finance. He was the president of his fraternity and was involved in numerous extra-curricular activities.

He previously attended Saltus school, where he was awarded the Sir Henry Tucker Scholarship in 1998. He graduated as the valedictorian from the Saltus Graduate Year with academic distinction. While on the Island, his interests included swimming and golf.

He was also a member of the National Debate Team for numerous years. He participated in the World's School Debating Championships and was a representative when Bermuda hosted the event in 1997. He travelled to Israel the following year for the competition.

Mr. Leitch will attend the Wadham College, Oxford and will be taking the Politics Philosophy Economics (PPE) programme. Eventually, he wants to study actuarial science and plans to return to Bermuda.
