Tourists arrive to empty Customs Hall

Jet Blue passengers were forced to wait at the arrivals hall of the Bermuda International Airport yesterday in order for Customs Officers to get to their posts due to a ?staff scheduling mix-up?.

The JetBlue flight arrived from John F. Kennedy airport in New York City at 4.55 p.m., however, before the passengers even set foot outside they were greeted with an empty Customs Hall.

Last night Collector of Customs Winnifred Fostine-DeSilva ?sincerely apologised? to all persons affected by the scheduling mistake that led to a delay in passengers being processed.

In a press release, Ms Fostine-DeSilva said: ?Passengers were subjected to the delay just after 5 p.m. when Customs staff were not at their assigned posts.

?However, all passengers were cleared within 20 minutes of staff arriving.?

The Collector of Customs also thanked the travelling public as well as colleagues in the Immigration Department and the Department of Airport Operations for their ?goodwill? in dealing with the scheduling error.
