A business woman has hit out at inaction over rubble left opposite her guest house which she says is an eyesore for visitors while drug users, derelicts and prostitutes also use the area.

Brenda Spencer, who runs Blue Horizons Guest Houses in South Shore, Warwick, says some guests have been upset because it reminds them of Ground Zero, site of New York's World Trade Center disaster.

She said: "We have had people who lost family in the September 11 tragedy and they come here for a holiday and they face that when they are sitting on the balcony."

The former Banana Beach and Flamingo Beach hotels were demolished in February following complaints from local businesses that a dangerous eyesore had been left providing a haven for undesirables.

But Ms Spencer said the situation had not improved and the rubble had just been left there.

She said the properties belonged to the Ritz Carlton group whose local agent is Appleby, Spurling and Kempe.

"It's been left too long. It's harbouring criminals, drug addicts and prostitutes. They need to cart the rubble away, landscape it and make it look better."

"I know if it had been in front of the Reefs or Coral Beach or Aerial Sands it would have been taken care of a long time ago."

She said the Police came down to move on vagrants. "But as soon as the Police go, the vagrants come back.

"It's not people from the area, it's people coming from all over the country to be a nuisance. Everyone around here is trying to do something about it."

She said local MP Dale Butler had done his best to help, but nothing had changed, despite him setting up a meeting with Diana Kempe from AS&K.

A spokeswoman for Appleby, Spurling and Kempe said the company did not have instructions from their client to comment on the matter.

Ms Spencer said she was also battling neighbours over disused land to the side of her property, which was being used as a tip.

She said: "It's to the front of me, the side of me. I am getting tired of it. It's taken me years to build up this business. I try my best to keep up the premises but all around me is trashy."
