Truck driver in stable condition

The driver of a truck that rammed an historic bridge was yesterday said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

The 46-year-old Paget man suffered a fractured wrist and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment after his vehicle crashed into the Manor House bridge, Smith?s, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police yesterday said that it appeared that the black Mack truck and trailer was travelling west on Harrington Sound Road when it collided with the bridge.

Details of damage to the structure, built in the 1920s, have not been released at this stage.
