Two men charged with murder conspiracy
Two men appeared before Chief Justice Richard Ground yesterday charged with conspiring to murder three Police officers and two other men in November of last year.
Both Kenneth Sinclair Durrant, 53, and Javon Ernest Gardner, 27, pleaded not guilty to five counts of conspiracy to murder on or about November 29, 2004.
The pair faced one count each of conspiracy to murder in relation to each of the five alleged intended victims ? Police Sgt. Arthur Glasford, P.c. Terry Trott, P.c. Llewellyn Edwards, Sharrieff Wales and Dion Ford .
In addition to the five counts of conspiracy to murder, Durrant of Ord Road, Warwick, and Gardner of Crossfield Lane, Sandys, also pleaded not guilty to attempting to defeat and pervert the course of justice.
Lawyer Craig Attridge represented Durrant while Gardner was represented by Victoria Pearman. Director of Public Prosecutions Vinette Graham Allen will prosecute case.
The two men must return to court for mention on July 4 when a trial date will be set. They are currently being held on remand.
In another new matter heard yesterday at the monthly Arraignments session in Supreme Court, three men were charged with attempting to murder Kuma Smith this year in a January 5 attack which put him in the hospital for eight days.
Harron Lee Powell Evans, 29, of Tills Hill, Pembroke, Akono Shakir Parsons, 23, of Deepdale Road Estate, Pembroke, and Davon Michael Marson, 27, of Happy Valley Lane, Pembroke all pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.
Evans, Marson and Parsons all also denied charges of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place on the same date.
Parsons also denied charges of common assault on Kuma Smith and of wilful damage.
A fourth man ? Jamiko St. Clair Nole Gibbons, 23, of Happy Valley Road, Devonshire ? was also charged in relation to the events of January 5.
Gibbons denied charges of common assault against Mr. Smith and possession of a weapon in a public place.
Bail was granted for all the defendants who must reappear in court on July 4 for mention.
