UBP chairman gets Senate seat
THE United Bermuda Party yesterday announced changes to its Shadow Cabinet, including the selection of party chairman Michael Fahy to replace Charlie Swan in the Senate.
Mr. Fahy (pictured), who has served as UBP chairman since March, will have Shadow Ministerial responsibilities for Telecommunications, Transport and Energy. He replaces Mr. Swan, who resigned his Senate seat last month to focus on contesting the Deember 4 by-election in Southampton West Central caused by the resignation of the UBP's Jon Brunson.
Other changes include an expanded appointment for John Barritt, who is now Shadow Minister of Legislative and Public Administration Reform.
Opposition Leader Kim Swan described Mr. Barritt as "one of Bermuda's greatest ever Parliamentarians", with a "passion for improving the governance of Bermuda".
Shadow Minister of the Environment Cole Simons is now also House Leader and Whip. Darius Tucker has been named Shadow Minister of Youth, Sport and Recreation. Donte Hunt has been given responsibility for Housing and Family Development, while Shawn Crockwell is now Shadow Minister for Labour and Immigration.
Senator Jeanne Atherden will look after Community and Cultural Affairs and Social Rehabilitation, while former Opposition Leader Michael Dunkley has had Tourism added to his responsibilities for Public Safety.
Mr. Swan called these new assignments "strong match-ups" as Parliament reconvenes today.
