Opposition MPs painted a bleak picture of Bermuda lacking festive cheer through Government inaction.

United Bermuda Party Transport spokesman said seniors had to decide whether to buy food or medicine while families were homeless.

He said: ?Some families are living in cars and the only Christmas light they will see is the light of the ignition.

?Families are finding themselves with eviction notices and nowhere to go.?

He urged urgent action from Government and said 54 units promise by Government over four years was not enough.

?When the minister tells Bermudians that housing is expensive in Bermuda and that the PLP can?t do anything about mortgage rates he paints the Government as devoid of ideas and creativity.?

Community Affairs and Seniors spokeswoman complained about poor conditions at rest homes still suffering from the affects of Hurricane Fabian. She said Government had fixed everything else but Lefroy House and Devonshire Rest home were still damaged.

Shadow Works and Engineering Minister also catalogued Government woes. She slammed Government secrecy, division, dishonesty over Berkeley which she said would not open by the new deadline of May. She said Government needed to consult more after they withdrew the plan to build the new Transport Control Department at Frog Lane.

Deputy Premier accused the Opposition of showing a lack of Christmas spirit by painting ?a negative mosaic? of Bermuda in the last House sitting of the year.

Housing Minister expressed similar sentiments, telling the House: ?All we hear from the other side (the Opposition) is about scandal. ?But we have nothing in our pockets except hard work and small pay.?
