A US Navy submarine has now left Bermuda's waters after one of its crew died from a heart attack and another suffered an appendicitus on board.

An officer from the unnamed vessel is now on the Island to escort the body of the chief petty officer back to the US. A second crewman is recovering in King Edward VII hospital after treatment for an appendicitus over the weekend.

The officer was picked up from the vessel by a Marine and Ports pilot vessel yesterday morning. An autopsy revealed the chief petty officer died from cardiac arrest. A Harbour Radio spokesman said a pilot vessel was on its way to the submarine on Sunday to pick up the appendicitus victim when it received a call about the heart attack.

The submarine was not named for security reasons.
