More and more teenagers in the US are choosing Bermuda shorts this summer.

Described by top designers as one the ?more refreshing looks that came down the spring runways for both sexes?, the shorts have popped up in many clothing outlets across the US.

An article from a Florida newspaper, The Ledger, this week quoted 15-year-old Meghan Glogower of Winter Haven, who thought Bermuda shorts were ?cute?.

?A lot of girls are wearing Bermuda shorts, ones that end just above the knee,? she said.

According to the article, the allure of ?the Bermuda?, as the Americans like to call the shorts, is that the look can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Recent looks from designer Narciso Rodriguez, for example, feature white ?scuba shorts? that hover above the kneecap, matched with high heels and an elegant scooped-neck top.

Old Navy, on the other hand, offers more casual pairs of Bermudas for kicking around, but even those can be perked up with a colourful scarf tied around the waist and a pair of fun flats.

Men?s looks this summer also include solid-coloured Bermudas and Target offers a fitted, khaki pair that rides below the belly button with straight legs that end well below mid-thigh.

Banana Republic?s basic chino shorts have been updated with a pleat-free, straight-leg fit while women?s Capris continue to be as strong this summer as in recent seasons.

Almost every designer and retail store in the US now offers some version of the versatile Bermuda shorts.
