US visitor found dead in hotel room

Foul play has not been ruled out after an American visitor was found dead in his room at the Wyndham Bermuda Resort & Spa yesterday.

The 46-year-old man was due to check out of the hotel at 11 a.m. yesterday

"We are making active inquiries surrounding the circumstances of his death," Insp. Nicholas Pedro said. "Obviously those investigations are not complete at this point. We are conducting forensic investigations at the moment. Obviously an autopsy will be completed at some point in the future so we will await the result."

The resort's general manager, Michael Collard, said one of his employees discovered the dead man's body and Police were then notified.

With his family still not contacted by late yesterday, Insp. Pedro would only say that the dead man, who checked into the hotel unaccompanied on Monday, was from the US east coast.

It marks the third death of a guest at the Southampton hotel in the last two years, Mr. Collard said.

Last summer a doctor from the US died of a heart attack while swimming at nearby Sinky Bay. Another guest died while swimming at Horseshoe Bay.

This is the second death of an American visitor this summer.

On July 20, 38-year-old Dmitri Pappa was found hanging in the closet of his room at Brightside Apartments in Flatts.
