Visitors' concierge service to be rolled out by December

Details of a new private sector-run concierge service to give tourists much better personalised information about the Island are set to be revealed next month.

A number of local companies have submitted plans for a concierge service, which would enhance information provided to visitors before, during and after they arrive in Bermuda.

The new service will include the existing Visitor Service Bureaux and will expand information points to venues throughout the Island.

Bermudians will be placed on all the regular cruise ships visiting the Island to give tourists a first hand insight into sightseeing and shopping attractions in Bermuda.

Bermuda Alliance for Tourism (BAT), the public-private sector body which includes the Tourism Department and the hospitality industry, is mulling over a short-list and will give further details at the National Tourism Conference in December.

Acting Director of Tourism Deanna Wade told The Royal Gazette recently that information provided for the new bureau could be a mixture of online and print material.

"We want to raise the level of provision in Bermuda and give the visitor an opportunity to learn about the range of services on offer on the Island," she said.

"We have committed to having a concierge on all the new contract ships and the occasional ships have said they would like to have it as well.

"It was (former Tourism Minister) David Allen's vision to have a concierge programme throughout every sector of the hospitality industry."
