A trio of cruise ship passengers found themselves fined $500 in Magistrates' Court after they were charged with importation of cannabis and papers used in connection with drug use.

Shaun Cawley Dennehy, 26, of Fresh Meadows, New York, Edward John Dorans, 36, of Palmer Avenue, Tenafly, New Jersey and Alan Paul Hain, 50, of Ludwig Lane, Staten Island, New York appeared before Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.

All three men, who were passengers on the Zenith, pleaded guilty to their charges.

Dennehy was arrested after Police were alerted by the ship's security, They discovered the drugs - 1.65 grams of cannabis - and paper in his cabin.

Dennehy said: "I apologise to the people of Bermuda."

Further searches revealed drugs in cabins occupied by Dorans and Hain.

Dorans said. "I apologise to the court and promise this will never happen again."

Hain also apologised: "I learned a valuable lesson, it won't happen again."

All three men were ordered to pay the $500 for the offence of possession and received discharge for the second charge of possession of papers.
