You have until 5 p.m. tomorrow to get yourself on the voters' list for the July 24 elections, if you haven't already registered.

Premier Jennifer Smith called the election on June 10, but Governor Sir John Vereker issued the election writ two days later, meaning that eligible voters had another week to get their registrations correct.

Parliamentary Registrar Sabrina Phillips confirmed that the end of business tomorrow is the final registration deadline.

“It's been pretty hectic in terms of people coming in and registering on the Internet,” she said. It is possible to check your constituency and update your registration on the Internet. Some 800 hits were recorded on the website (www.elections.gov.bm) since Tuesday, Ms Phillips said.

If you have moved or changed your name since the last election you could be in danger of not being able to vote in this year's election, unless you make sure your particulars are changed.

Voters will also find help in locating their new constituency with the Constituency Finder feature on the website. Voters can still register the old fashioned way by picking up a registration form at the Parliamentary Registry Office in the Valerie T. Scott Building at 60 Reid Street, Hamilton, or from any of the Island's Post Offices or Police stations. Legislators have overhauled the voting system making it even more critical to for voters to make sure they are properly registered.

In order to be eligible to vote one must be 18 years or older, Bermudian by birth or status or a Non-Bermudian Commonwealth citizen who was registered to vote on May 1, 1976. A final voters list must be published by June 26.
