Women walking or sunbathing along the South Shore have been warned to be on their guard after two women found a naked man crouching in the bushes watching them.

The Women's Resource Centre released the warning after the shaken women reported the incident to the agency and said they wanted to prevent it happening to anyone else.

Executive director Penny Dill said the women had immediately reported the incident to Police, but felt their complaint was not taken seriously.

"These two young women were sunbathing on Horseshoe Bay and they started to feel that somebody was in the bushes behind them. They could hear rustling coming from the bushes.

"Then they saw a man, completely naked, in the bushes watching them. He was playing with himself,"she said.

"They were obviously horrified and immediately got up and left. Fortunately, one of them had a cell phone so they called the Police."

Ms Dill said the woman, one of whom worked on the Island and the other who was on vacation, felt it paramount that other women be warned of the pervert.

She added: "I think they were totally shocked that a guy was completely naked and had been hidden in the bushes watching them. They didn't know how long he had been there.

"They were unhappy with the Police response and that's why they came to us. They asked us to put a warning out so other people could be aware that it could happen again."

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "All complaints against any member of our community, specifically against women, are taken very seriously.

"We, during the summer months between April and October, have a beach patrol, which specifically attends to complaints and calls from the South Shore area, particularly Horseshoe Bay.

"We are advising all women to be particularly observant of their surroundings. Always put yourself in a position where you have groups of individuals surrounding you and you are not isolated by yourself.

"If anyone is a victim of this type of incident, we are asking them to get in touch with their respective Police station and it will be dealt with and taken seriously."
