Heavy downpours caused a rash of floods in the Pembroke area yesterday morning.

More than two inches of rain pounded the Island as a result of a slow moving frontal system which crossed overnight Sunday.

By early morning the front had deposited 2.19 inches of rain before speeding up and moving East away from the Island.

The Bermuda Fire Service responded to six flooding incidents between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Most of the calls were from private households and fire crews used water vacs and squeegees to remove the excess water from homes.

Officers were also called out to deal with overflowing water tanks but all of the affected areas were within the city.

The Fire Service responded to a seventh call shortly after 9 a.m. at a Hamilton business.

And the heavy rains have not just affected building. Police are asking that all boat owners check their crafts if they haven't done so in the last 24 hours and there have been reports of boats taking on a lot of rain water.

The Bermuda Weather Service expects the rest of the week to be mainly clear.
