An admitted drug abuser who went on a shopping spree with no money last week earned himself a term in prison.

Antoine Raynor, 34, of Mount Hill, Pembroke appeared yesterday before Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves to answer to six charges of stealing.

Raynor pleaded not guilty to three of the six charges, which stem from stealing money totalling about $450 from three different individuals.

Crown counsel Sade Subair told the court that Raynor stole merchandise from Master's Limited and Sport 'R' Us. The Masters theft took place last week and the next day he stole two packs of men's socks from Sports 'R' Us. On Wednesday, Raynor returned to Sports 'R' Us where his previous theft had been caught on surveillance camera. Not knowing this, he tried to steal a six pack of women's socks, but this time store officials followed him into the street.

In court on Monday he said: "Yeah I'm sorry I shouldn't have done it. I feel bad about it but I'm on drugs. You keep sending me to Westgate and that's not working. Nothing is helping me."

Raynor was remanded into custody until August pending the result of a Social Inquiry report.
