Widower of wall collapse victim sues college, hotel

The widower of Andrea Bicarie, the teacher who was killed at the Bermuda College when a retaining wall collapsed on her car last year, is taking legal action against the Bermuda College and the Elbow Beach Hotel.

Roan Bicarie and Teresa Janell Trott, as administrators and trustees of the estate of Andrea Terry-Lyn Bicarie, filed a writ filed yesterday against the Elbow Beach Hotel, the Bermuda College, E.B. Properties Limited, D&J Construction, Biermans Concrete Products Ltd.

In 2003 Coroner Edward King returned a verdict of accidental death on Mrs. Bicarie, who died from a broken neck in the lethal landslide at Bermuda College in January. Mrs. Bicarie was at the Bermuda College that day to take several students to a mock GED exam. While the students went on to take their exam Mrs. Bicarie stayed in her car to make a phone call.

A loud banging, ripping sound brought the students rushing outside to find Mrs. Bicarie?s car covered with sand and rubble.

At the time an Elbow Beach spokeswoman admitted the hotel was warned of faults in its service road which eventually collapsed after heavy rain, taking the retaining wall with it, which crushed Mrs. Bicarie.

Law firm Trott and Duncan will represent Mr. Bicarie.
