Witnesses come forward
CrimeStoppers last night thanked the community for calling with names and information on the hooligans who rampaged through a football game with weapons.
Co-ordinator of the crime-busting organisation Alex McDonald said since the photographs of the people believed to be involved had been shown in the media, CrimeStoppers had seen a huge response.
"The response from the public has been very good," he said.
"We have had a number of important calls where people have come through with significant information.
"We hope to make progress over the next few days."
Mr. McDonald said CrimeStoppers would continue to show the still photographs on the television in the coming days in the hope the message would really get through.
The thugs ran amok at Devonshire Recreation Ground on Tuesday of last week with an array of potentially lethal weapons, including a machete, Samurai sword, knives, baseball bat and hammers.
Mr. McDonald added: "We would like to thank everyone who has called in so far, and urge anyone else with information to get in touch as soon as possible.
"And we also want to remind the public that CrimeStoppers is there if they have any information on any other incidents, particularly cycle crime."
Information can be given to CrimeStoppers anonymously on 1-800-623-8477.
