A Pembroke woman yesterday admitted three charges of stealing from a local insurer ? but a Supreme Court hearing will be held today to determine exactly how much money she stole.

Karen Irvena Cross, 53, of St. John?s Hill, was facing a trial on six charges of stealing more than $55,000 from her former employer, British American Insurance Company between July, 1996 and April, 2001. But yesterday she pleaded guilty to three of the charges, although she disputed the amounts stolen.

The Crown alleges that she stole a total of $33,103.04, while Cross maintains that she stole just $2,881.80.

Today, British American employees will attempt to verify the actual amount Cross took while she was working at the insurance company.

The Supreme Court jury was directed to acquit Cross on the three other charges of stealing $22,003.80. Cross was released on bail.
