Woman in custody after baby is hospitalised suffering from burns
A woman is in Police custody today after a baby was taken to hospital suffering from serious burns to its head and body.
The one-year-old child was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at 3 p.m. yesterday and is in a serious but stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The 32-year-old St. David's woman, who has not yet been arrested or charged with any offence, is believed to be the girlfriend of the child's father.
Police were alerted "due to the injuries being consistent with something untoward having taken place", said a Police spokesman.
It is understood that the burns, which cover a large portion of the child's head and body, were caused by scalding by water.
Police are not looking for any other suspects in relation to the matter.
