A woman with around 200 previous convictions was jailed for three months yesterday for stealing six Carlsberg beers.

Jacqueline Delaine Dillas, 39, of Riviera Estate, Southampton told Magistrates' Court: "Since I've given up drugs I seem to have turned into an alcoholic."

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said Dillas must have the most convictions in Bermuda.

"Your record intrigues me. If I was a scientist I'd study your case."

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman said Dillas was on parole when she committed her latest offence. He said her charge sheet from 1981 to 2004 was more than 14 pages long.

He added that on March 11, 2004 Dillas was caught trying to leave the Hamilton MarketPlace on Church Street with the unpaid beer.

The store manager confronted her and phoned the Police.

With the Police standing right next to her she drank one-and-a-half bottles of elephant beer and by the time she got to the station, she said she was sorry.

Mr. Blackman told the court that Dillas's last conviction was also for stealing elephant beers.

Dillas told Mr. Greaves she was going away for treatment in Atlanta.

"Please have mercy on me."
