WOW apologises for teething problems
Upstart television service World on Wireless has issued mea culpa to customers declaring it was aware of problems with it?s feed and promises to rectify outstanding issues.
Issues of poor installation jobs, a wayward signal, missing channels and ?rain fade? have plagued WOW since it?s introduction six weeks ago.
President of WOW Gavin Wilson wrote in his letter of August 19 obtained by that the company cared about customer satisfaction and was working to address the problems. ?Every month thereafter more channels will be added to the basic channel package at no additional cost to you,? he promised.
The letter was sent to all 2,100 WOW customers. Demand for the service has been high with the company running out of receiver boxes last week. A new supply has arrived.
?For many of you the service has been everything you hoped for but for others there have been problems ranging from poor installation service, marginal signal quality and the absence of various movie channels. I would like to address the problems that exist and demonstrate how WOW is resolving them,? Mr. Wilson wrote in his letter dated August 19.
At first WOW ?thought it would be a good idea to outsource installations to independent contractors,? he said, alluding to substandard installations. He admits this was poor judgment as the contractors were ?fitting in? WOW jobs between other jobs.
All WOW installers now work solely for the company, thereby reducing the amount of time customers will spend at home waiting for the WOW man to come.
?There is no excuse for this and we are extremely sorry for the great inconvenience this has caused,? he admitted.
Mr. Wilson admitted ?there are areas of the Island where WOW either does not reach or the reception is poor, and not all channels are received?, but promised WOW engineers will be installing more antennas across the Island over the next few months. ?It might be necessary to erect (the antennas) at various subscribers? homes; in exchange we would offer free WOW service,? he said.
Concerning the third problem of ?blank channels? Mr. Wilson reminded subscribers that a special satellite dish had been accidentally returned to New Jersey, causing lengthy delays while the dish is installed.
?Rain-fade? or the loss of signal during heavy rain was also being tackled and WOW was ?moving all our channels to receive satellite signals that are not affected by rain?.
?At one time we thought that rain-fade would not be an issue but we were wrong,? he added.
By the end of the summer, 12 new channels (mostly movie packages) will be added for their autumn line up. Mr. Wilson concluded: ?We at WOW realise that there is still a lot of work to be done to bring us up to a service standard that you should expect from us. We willingly undertake this task.?
