The woman accused of stalking Bermuda-based star Catherine Zeta-Jones made menacing calls to Aeriel Sands, the resort owned by the family of her husband Michael Douglas.

Dawnette Knight, 32, of Beverley Hills, California, is accused of making death threats to Ms Zeta-Hones, 34, in a reign of terror said to have lasted for more than a year, according to London's Evening Standard newspaper.

Today the star, joined by her husband, will come face to face with the accused in court in Los Angeles.

Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg must determine if there is enough evidence to make Knight stand trial on a 26-count complaint of stalking and making criminal threats against Ms Zeta-Jones.

She made several threats to kill the star, issued an invitation to her funeral and claimed the father of her baby was George Clooney.

Deputy Sheriff Teresa Garrett said when she discussed the case with Miss Zeta-Jones in March the actress was very scared.

"She was very upset, lost for words. She didn't know where the threats were coming from," added Ms Garrett.

"She was very afraid for herself and her family."

Knight is also accused of making two threatening phone calls in March and April this year to Aerial Sands.

Knight was arrested in June after a raid at her Beverly Hills Home and is being held on $1 million bail. If convicted she could face up to 19 years behind bars.

Fourteen of the letters being used in the hearing were sent to the actress's 87-year-old father-in-law Kirk Douglas.

Defence attorney Richard Herman said his client had a "girlish crush on Michael Douglas," and sent him a note telling him she would show him "a good time."

However he is not convinced his client wrote all the letters.

"We haven't gotten the sum of the language in the letters, which no heterosexual woman would ever have written," Herman told reporters outside court.

"So I'm not convinced my client was the one behind the awful things in those letters."

Knight's fiance, Ronald Calvin, called her a God-fearing woman who is "extremely terrified by what's happening to her."

He said Knight "has every intention of pursuing her career as a child psychologist and loving wife to myself and, hopefully, the mother of my children ... All of this will be pillow talk for us one day," Calvin said.
