2007 CHRISTMAS MESSAGES - May the angelic songs of this season reverberate in our hearts
A man by the name of Izaak Walton was one day sitting on the bank of a river and as he heard birds singing, he exclaimed, "If Thou Lord, have provided such music for sinners upon earth, what hast Thou in store for the saints in heaven!"
The celebration of the birth of our Lord gives us an idea of what's in store for the chosen of God. Ask yourself the question — what would Christmas be without carols?
For everywhere we go we hear the festive sounds of the season which is quite a contrast to today's music.
And I won't impose my choice of music on you but with apologies to Pop and Hip Hop and Reggae and Rap and other current musical forms — I love the music of Christmas, which had its birth in that moment when heaven and earth here-to-fore separated by all the fears and superstitions of the past became one at last.
Angels and shepherds united as the Angelic host praised God with celestial proclamation of the glory of God, and here we are over 2000 years later where the glorious melody still echoes from the hills of Bethlehem to the uttermost parts of the earth.
If ever there was a time when this country needed to hear and respond to our Divine Maker in gratitude for his beneficent goodness and mercy toward us it is during this season as we pray for a world order, for domestic concord, for family solidarity, for political expediency, for fairness and justice for all people.
May we allow the angelic song to reverberate in our hearts and in our spirits — not as a habit, not in form or fashion, but in genuine worship and praise to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
Have a blessed and joyous Christmas and peace and health in the New Year.
