Bellissimo! Beauty queens look forward to Italian job
Two Bermuda beauty queens have been crowned at the "Notti Bianchi" — or White Party — at Splash.
Danielle Smith was crowned Miss Sasch 2007 Modella Domani Bermuda and Cristina Troja was chosen to represent Bermuda in the "Miss Italia Nel Mondo" (Miss Italy Around the World) later this year.
The crowning was part of four days of events organised by Sasch clothing store owner Yvonne Cacace who brought Miss Sasch 2006, Maria Christina Carella, Miss Italia, Claudia Andretti, and Miss Sasch 2003 Modella Domani to Bermuda.
As well as choosing a Miss Sasch Bermuda and another woman to compete in the Miss Italia Around the World pageant, the three Italian beauty queens had a packed schedule.
They enjoyed a boat trip organised by Mrs. Cacace, they met with the Premier, held a fashion show at Ariel Sands and had lunch at Silk, a Thai restaurant in Hamilton.
Mrs. Cacace, however, was disappointed because she had hoped while the women were here they could officiate the opening of their newly renovated store, on Reid Street.
She added: "We are doing the complete Sasch look for the store, which includes changes in lighting and leather furniture. Delays, however, have occurred with the air conditioning in the original store.
"Hopefully next week, the Mayor of Hamilton will do the ribbon cutting and Giacomo the son of the founder of Sasch, is considering coming back, too."
Miss Smith, who is Miss Sasch 2007 Domani Bermuda, will represent the renovated store in Bermuda as part of her title.
The crown also comes with a 5,000 Euro contract to fly to Florence, Italy, for 15 days to participate in fittings, fashion shows and presentations of the Spring- Summer 2008 collection.
Miss Troja, who was chosen to participate in Miss Italy Around the World, will travel to Jesolo, Italy, a beach town near Venice, later this year for the pageant, which requires the beauty queens to be at least fourth generation Italian.
Mrs. Cacace said: "We are very proud of Danielle and hope this will allow many doors to open for her in the fashion industry and Cristina.
"We are very pleased to have these two girls represent Bermuda in Italy and we should all be proud of the group as a whole as they showed us all professionalism and unity throughout the days of practice and competition."
