Breaking news: Burch approves controversial project
Acting Environment Minister Sen. David Burch has overruled a planning board and approved controversial works at Bailey's Bay Cricket Club that were carried out without planning permission last year.
In a statement, Sen. Burch said he carried out a site visit to the area this morning, and had approved a retroactive application by the Ministry of Works and Engineering to carry out works there.
The realignment of Coney Island Road and the dumping of landfill in a bay was undertaken last spring.
The Development Applications Board (DAB) then refused a retroactive application in November, expressing its "disappointment with the applicant's (Ministry of Works and Engineering) disregard for the planning process".
