Burglars take advantage of the Cup Match holiday

Burglars broke into a house in Paget over the Cup Match public holiday.

They stole cash and a cell phone from a house in Mission Crescent between 11.30 p.m. on Thursday and 1.30 a.m. on Friday. The phone is described as a black and silver Nokia 'flip' style cell phone.

• A woman had to be rescued by firefighters after losing control of her vehicle near the Rising Son.

The motorist veered off an embankment in Middle Road, Southampton, at 10.50 a.m. on Friday. A Police spokesman said: "The woman had to be extracted out of the vehicle by Fire EMTs who helped the lone occupant out of the vehicle to safety.

"The driver suffered minimal injuries. Island Construction was called to facilitate the removal of the vehicle from that site."

• Police arrested a man for drink-driving after he overtook their patrol car and subsequent vehicles on the Causeway.

The man, who has not been named, was caught at 3.45 a.m. on Saturday by a mobile patrol.

A Police spokesman said: "Police were travelling in a westerly direction along Kindley Field Road in St. George's when they were overtaken by a car travelling in the same direction.

"The officers began to drive behind the vehicle and noticed the suspect driving in an erratic fashion overtaking a number of cars on the Causeway.

"The officers stopped the suspect and it was at that time they smelled intoxicants on his breath and noticed he was unsteady on his feet.

"He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station."
