Fire Service launches awareness week

The first to learn about the importance of fire dangers in the kitchen, preventing cooking fires at home and general fire safety advice were students from three schools who attended the launch of Bermuda Fire Service’s annual Fire Safety Awareness Week.

They went along to the Hamilton Fire Station to hear about fire safety and see a special show given by firefighter Arthur Raynor on how to be safe, especially when cooking at home.

The schools that took part in the first session of the Fire Service’s open week were West End Primary School, Meet A Mom Group and Tree Tops Nursery.

Throughout this week, firefighter Mr. Raynor will be putting on his fire safety shows at the Hamilton Fire Service headquarters for schoolchildren.

There are also related displays at all three Bermuda Fire Service stations at Clearwater, Port Royal and Hamilton, which are open to the public throughout this week.

Firefighters and fire safety officers will be on hand to offer advice and guidance related to this year’s awareness week theme which is “Prevent Cooking Fires — Watch What You Heat” focusing on how to stay safe and reduce the risk of fires breaking out in homes.
