Friends organise golf tournament in Marcus' honour
Friends and co-workers of Marcus Gibbings have unveiled details of a lasting tribute that will help others in the field he loved.
Today marks the one-year anniversary of the day that Mr. Gibbings, 32, was found stabbed to death inside a Devonshire apartment.
Management and staff at the communications firm CCS, where he worked as an engineer, hosted a dinner and gathering in his honour last night.
They revealed that a golf tournament for the public will be held sometime in mid-January 2008, to coincide with Mr. Gibbings' birthday on January 14. The sponsorship of the event will go towards a scholarship fund for others in Bermuda who are studying in the telecommunications and IT field that Mr. Gibbings worked in.
Jorge-Ann Costley, Human Resource manager at CCS, said of the tournament and scholarship: "We were thinking about doing something this month, but the timing wasn't right with it being the anniversary of his death.
"We want to celebrate his life, so his birthday is a good time for doing that, our steering committee thought. In terms of the scholarship, I'm sure we'll be looking at both the Bermuda College and overseas university students."
