Men charged with assaulting Policeman
Two men are accused of assaulting the Police officer in charge of Operation Safer Streets as he tried to arrest them at a disturbance in Front Street at the weekend.
Four men appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with offences allegedly committed in the early hours of Saturday. David Lambert, 21, of Aubrey Road, Hamilton Parish, pleaded not guilty to affray and resisting arrest; Travon Talbot, 18, of Brighton Hill Road, Devonshire, and Sewaid Smith, 21, of Radnor Road, Hamilton Parish, denied resisting arrest and assaulting Ch Insp Nicholas Pedro.
Another man also appeared in court yesterday, accused of using offensive words at the disturbance. Vernon Simons, 23, of North Street, Pembroke, denied resisting arrest.
The defendants were all granted bail and will next appear at Magistrates' Court on May 14.
