Police boat runs aground after yacht rescue
A Police boat suffered minor damage after running aground in the area of Daniel's Head while attempting to rescue a yacht.
Marine Police received a call from Bermuda Radio at 8.30 p.m. on Monday requesting Police help with Sea Spirit, a 40ft motor yacht, which was about 30 miles west of Bermuda, heading for the Island.
Sea Spirit had been drifting for 12 days after its engines were disabled when a rope and fish net became entangled in the vessel's propeller.
Additionally, the crew's attempts to sail to Bermuda proved unsuccessful, Police said.
Marine Police vessel Guardian went to locate Sea Spirit and officers eventually located the yacht during the early hours of yesterday morning.
However, while Guardian was towing the vessel back to shore, it ran aground around 5.30 a.m. Subsequently, Guardian managed to float free and both vessels were last in Dockyard undergoing a damage assessment.
Police said no one was injured in the mishap. Guardian's damage, listed as "minor" occurred to its propeller. Despite this, Guardian is expected to be back in service shortly.
