Police probe burglaries

Police are investigating two burglaries where thieves stole items ranging from a digital camera to a 42in plasma TV.

In one, officers were called to a house in Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, at about 6.55 p.m. on Tuesday after the occupant said that sometime between 10.45 a.m. and 6 p.m. the same day, someone broke into the home while it was unoccupied.

The culprit stole an Apple laptop computer and a Sony digital camera. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

In the other burglary, Police were called to a house in Leacraft Hill Road, Southampton, at 5:35 p.m. also on Tuesday. The complainants stated that between 8.15 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. that day, someone gained entry into their home while it was unoccupied. Stolen were a diamond ring and a 42" plasma TV. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Again on Tuesday, Police received a report of an assault at 11.05 a.m when the victim, a 34-year-old Pembroke woman, told officers she was working at a Queen Street, Hamilton, business when the suspect, a 40-year-old Sandy's parish woman, entered the store.

A Police spokesman said: "It appears that the Sandy's parish woman took up two items of clothing and noticed that no tags were on them. She apparently complained about this, resulting in an argument between the two women.

"The suspect then punched the victim in the face and a scuffle ensued. Inquiries into this incident are underway."
