Premier impressed by museum
Premier Ewart Brown got a first hand look at the revamped Bermuda Historical Society Museum yesterday and pledged to promote it in his Tourism Ministry.
The Bermuda Historical Society has signalled a move away from having a predominantly white perspective and is now broadening its approach.
The Premier saw an exhibit dedicated to Fred Dolan, a black Bermudian who left the Island and enlisted in the Boer War at age 40, winning the Queen's South Africa medal, something not normally awarded to blacks.
After a quick tour of the free Museum which is next to the Bermuda Library in Queen Street, Dr. Brown said he hoped to be back for a much longer visit next time with the younger generation in tow.
He said: "This is absolute incredible. As a student of history I had no clue to the extent to which you had collected these various artifacts."
Bermuda Historical Society president Andy Bermingham said the venue was open to all groups wanting to use it.
