Promoter donates TVs, cash to Dialysis Unit
Fifteen TVs and $1,500 were donated to the Dialysis Unit by party promoters who are bringing a Rolling Stones tribute band to the Island.
Paul Sofianos along with 441 Productions threw a U2 tribute band concert in June. The money raised at that event purchased the new TVs, which were presented to the Dialysis Unit yesterday.
This Saturday they hope to raise more money for the Kidney Patients in Action charity through another concert with the Rolling Stones tribute band The Blushing Brides.
The band hail from Toronto, Canada and has been hailed as the best Stones tribute band, selling out concerts that attracted more than 10,000 people.
The Kidney Patients in Action charity is personal to Mr. Sofianos.
In December 2004, his kidneys failed and, after spending a month in hospital, he was released but told he would be required to spend several hours a week undergoing dialysis.
Dialysis treatment duplicates the functions of kidneys and removes waste products from a person's blood and excess fluid from their urine.
Mr. Sofianos spends 15 hours a week at the unit for this process to work. He, and his fellow patients, are hooked up to a machine for approximately four hours a time.
Soon after he began dialysis, he decided he wanted to do something to make it a little more bearable — something that could make the time spent in the unit a little enjoyable.
The $50 tickets are available at All Wrapped Up, Music World, iStore, and all Gosling's Hamilton Retail Outlets.
Part Proceeds from this show will be donated to Bermuda Charity; Kidney Patients in Action and Swallows Ladies Hockey Club. For further info email rollingstonestributeshow[AT]bermuda.com
