Senior banned from driving
A senior who admitted to drunk driving received a hefty fine and a one-year driving ban.
Vincent Roberts, 70, of North Shore Road, Pembroke, was arrested on June 13 on Harrington Sound Road after he left the scene of a three-vehicle road accident. Police officers attended the scene of the accident and spoke with the two other drivers who said Roberts had left the scene. They went to the Government quarry on Harrington Sound Road and saw a car with an expired registration and damage to the front and the rear.
Roberts was identified to the Police and admitted he was in the accident but said he would take care of it. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and glazed eyes. The defendant said he had been drinking Cockspur rum.
A breathalyser test revealed he had 212 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Roberts was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
