Swinging for Lori
Brian Morris will this morning finish playing a gruelling 24-hour golf-a-thon, which he played to raise money for his cousin Lori Mello who has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Mr. Morris, the head golf professional at the Belmont Hills Golf Club, began playing golf at eight o'clock on Thursday morning and when the Royal Gazette caught up with him around 4.30 p.m. yesterday he had already played 73 holes of golf.
"I feel pretty good. A couple of people have come out on the course to encourage me and to play a couple of rounds with me. When it gets dark I will switch to glow in the dark golf balls and I know this course so that helps. By the time I finish I would have covered something like 200 holes," he explained.
Mr. Morris said he had received overwhelming support from members of the public.
"So many people have supported this effort, and have supported my cousin Lori and her family. The support of my co-workers and the public is what keeps me going.
"At the end of the day however, this is all about Lori. She leaves tomorrow to spend Christmas having chemotherapy and radiation treatment. What I'm feeling now, although I may feel a little tired, is nothing compared to what she has gone through and what she will go through over the next couple of months," he added.
