Warning after thieves target boats
Marine Police are urging boat owners to secure their property after a recent spate of boat thefts.
Police have received reports of theft all over the Island but mostly in the East End and central bays around Hamilton.
Items stolen include outboard engines, fuel tanks, electronic equipment, biminis, fishing rods, reels, tackle, small dinghies and punts.
Boat owners are encouraged to remove valuable items from their boat and secure all items left aboard. Punts should be locked with a chain to the vessel.
Officers are asking boat owners to take a picture of their boat and equipment to aid in the recovery if anything is stolen.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Marine Police at 299-4584. Anonymous information can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-623-8477.
